DENVER—A man accused of fatally shooting a man as part of an attempted robbery in 2009 has been convicted of charges including first-degree murder.

Denver prosecutors say 22-year-old Richard Impellizine could face life in prison at a sentencing hearing in March.

Jurors convicted him Tuesday of two counts of first-degree murder, two counts of attempted first-degree murder, attempted aggravated robbery, two counts of attempted first-degree assault and two counts of illegal discharge of a firearm.

He was accused of approaching 21-year-old Billy Ortiz and his friends in June 2009 as part of an attempted aggravated robbery. Impellizine shot at the group and also at Ortiz, who later died.

Nathan Martinez is scheduled for trial later this month on a charge alleging he was an accessory.
