RIFLE, Colo.—Garfield County school officials are considering closing two elementary schools in Rifle to cope with more budget cuts.
The school board is considering proposals on Tuesday to deal with up to $2 million in cuts to the Garfield School District Re-2 budget.
According to the Glenwood Springs Post Independent ( ), district administrators and board members told voters in 2011 that drastic cuts were likely after a proposed $3 million mill levy override was rejected last November.
The district has already cut 23 positions and various programs over the past two years.
