Pepper spray was accidently discharged on a school bus full of students as it pulled away from Carmody Middle School in Lakewood this afternoon.
Around 2:30 p.m., officers were called to the middle school, at 2050 S. Kipling St., said Steve Davis, spokesman for the Lakewood Police Department.
Initial reports indicate that from 8 to 10 students were affected by the pepper spray, Davis said.
Officials do not know how the pepper spray was discharged or which student it belonged to.
The bus immediately returned to the school.
Sallie Woodward told KMGH-TV in Denver that her grandson released the spray after a female student said she had pepper spray in her purse. Woodward said her grandson didn’t believe it was really pepper spray and sprayed it.
