More than 1,600 part-time, seasonal workers are being hired at Colorado’s 46 Home Depot stores for the company’s 4-month spring period of March through June, Home Depot said Thursday.
Kathryn Gallagher, Home Depot spokeswoman, said that more than 800 of those jobs will be in the 25 Home Depot stores in the Denver metro area.
Nationwide, said Gallagher, Home Depot is filling more than 70,000 seasonal positions, the same number as were hired in the Spring of 2011.
“Spring is the busiest time of year for us,” said Gallagher. “It is our Christmas.”
She also noted that for the third year, Home Depot will have a “Black Friday” during the Spring, which will begin on a Thursday and run through the weekend.
“They (customers) will get great deals. They will get a jump start on the spring season,” said Gallagher.
Gallagher said that for competitive reasons Home Depot is not revealing the date of the “Black Friday.”
The positions being filled are 20-hour per week, part-time positions. Gallagher noted that half of Home Depot’s 2011 seasonal hires stayed on in permanent positions.
Gallagher said that Home Depot is announcing its hiring push earlier than usual. Hiring will begin to ramp up over the next several weeks on a market-by-market basis, based on the needs of the individual stores and as Spring climates begin to approach.
Job seekers can begin applying online now at .
The people Home Depot are looking for have a “passion for customer service, a passion for helping people and a passion for helping people get what they need,” said Gallagher.
She said retail experience is a plus, but added that applicants don’t need much retail experience.
Home Depot calls itself the world’s largest home improvement specialty retailers, with 2,252 retail stores in the United States, Canada, Mexico and China.
It has more than 300,000 employees.
