As members of the Colorado Parks and Wildlife Commission voted unanimously Thursday to authorize negotiations on oil drilling in St. Vrain State Park, users and neighbors of the park expressed varying opinions about the move.
“We would just as soon them not be drilling anywhere near residential areas,” said Dale Smith, who can see the park from his front door step, just west of the park.
Drilling already occurs on the park’s periphery, and Smith said it has hurt property values in his neighborhood. He also worries about air and water pollution.
“If we could, we would stop the drilling,” he said, adding, “If something is going to be a state park it shouldn’t have something degrading its appearance.”
