The Greeley Tribune reports tonight that a Windsor High School junior died this morning in a head-on collision west of the city.

Luis Reyes Mon, 17, was going north on Colorado Highway 257 north of U.S. Highway 34 at about 7:49 a.m. when a 2000 Ford F250 pickup truck veered into the path of his 2009 Toyota Camry.

The Colorado State Patrol said Mon tried to steer away from the collision but was still struck head-on, the Tribune reported.

Mon became the first person this year to die on Weld County roads.

Mon’s 10-year-old sister sustained minor to moderate injuries, and pickup’s driver Wayne Ochsner, 27, of Loveland sustained minor injuries.

Charges are pending.
