It’s almost Girl Scout Cookie time: beginning Sunday, thousands of scouts will be going door-to-door statewide and across the nation selling boxes of cookies. New this year is that all sales will be direct; there are no more pre-orders in Colorado. The streamlined process is what consumers said they want, according to spokeswoman Amanda Kalina, who estimates 4 million boxes of cookies will be purchased in Colorado from scouts selling door-to-door, at grocery stores and booths.
Another new feature is that some scouts with smartphones will be able to process credit card orders. And by going to , customers can locate where cookies are being sold and also download a mobile app.
There are eight varieties of cookies, including a new flavor, Savannah Smiles. In celebration of its 100th anniversary, the organization introduced the cookie in tribute to founder Juliette Low’s birthplace in Savannah, GA. The cookie is crescent-shaped, lemon-flavored and dusted with powdered sugar.
Girl Scout Cookies are $3.50 per package and all the money raised in state supports scouting programs here. Sales will continue through March 4.
