MONTE VISTA, Colo.—A San Luis Valley school superintendent says students at a San Luis Valley junior high school will be sent home during high wind gusts because of construction defects.

Philip Compton says Sargent Junior-High School near Monte Vista will be closed if winds exceed 25 miles per hour.

According to the Denver Post ( ), an independent review by structural engineers found inadequate connections between the roof and walls in the gym and auditorium. They say the defects endanger the entire building.

The state Division of Fire Safety is reviewing 20 projects built by the Neenan Co. of Fort Collins to determine if there are other construction defects.

Company officials have said they welcome the expanded reviews.
