Two days after the Colorado football program nabbed its first four-star recruit in the current recruiting cycle, the Buffs landed a even more high-profile cornerback when Yuri Wright announced Tuesday that he will sign with CU, according to Rivals.com.
Wright received negative publicity last week when he was expelled from high school power Don Bosco Prep of Ramsey, N.J., because offensive tweets were discovered on his Twitter account. Michigan revoked its scholarship offer to Wright after those tweets became public. In addition to CU, Wright also made recruiting visits to Notre Dame and Rutgers. College coaches and school officials are prohibited by the NCAA from discussing anything about recruits until prospects are signed. National signing day is Feb. 1.
CU athletic director Mike Bohn talked Tuesday about the process involved when questions or controversies arise during recruiting. “We have communicated clearly to our coaches that every student-athlete enrolling here must meet our academic standards and our standards of character and commitment as a basic condition of being a Buff,” Bohn said.
A 6-foot-2, 180-pounder, Wright is CU’s highest-ranked prospect and first national top-100 commitment in this recruiting cycle. Rivals.com ranks Wright No. 85 for all positions and seventh among cornerbacks.
