HealthSouth Corp. today announced plans for a new hospital in Littleton.
The 40-room inpatient facility will specialize in medical rehabilitation.
Construction on the hospital at 1001 W. Mineral Ave. is scheduled to begin this spring. It is expected to open by the third quarter of 2013.
Birmingham, Ala.-based HealthSouth bought 11.65 acres on which to build the 49,000-square-foot hospital.
“We look forward to providing our services to the residents of south Denver and the Littleton community,” said Jerry Gray, HealthSouth’s West region president. “This new hospital will complement our existing 64-bed hospital in Colorado Springs and will provide residents with access to our high-quality inpatient and outpatient rehabilitative programs.”
Plans call for 40 private rooms where inpatient rehabilitative care will be offered, including specialized programs to help patients recover from conditions such as stroke and other neurological disorders; orthopedic, cardiac and pulmonary conditions; brain and spinal cord injuries and amputations.
The hospital is expected to ramp up employment to 90 full-time workers in its third year of operation. The construction workforce will be 300 to 400.
HealthSouth is the nation’s largest operator of inpatient rehabilitation hospitals with facilities in 27 states and Puerto Rico.
