A reputed gang leader was charged with first-degree murder Monday on allegations that he set up a police informant’s brutal hatchet slaying in Colorado Springs.
Roger Julius Glover, 36 — also known as Brooklyn — is accused of soliciting the Aug. 16 death of William Mickle, court records show. He is being held in the El Paso County jail on a $250,000 bond, according to the jail log.
Police quietly arrested Glover on Jan. 18 on suspicion of retaliating against a witness, a felony, and prosecutors upgraded charges Monday.
Mickle, 20, had warned friends before his death that he was in danger because of a local gang leader’s suspicions that he was a “snitch.” A source close to the investigation told The Gazette that Mickle, who was homeless, occasionally supplied tips to police but wasn’t a registered confidential informant.
