MASON CITY, Iowa—The Landfill of North Iowa board has rejected a proposal that would have directed trash to a waste-to-energy plant that would be built in Mason City.
Creative Energy Systems, of Larkspur, Colo., had said the plant would have taken waste material headed for a landfill and turn it into a synthetic gas. The gas would have been burned to generate electricity to sell to Alliant Energy.
The Mason City Globe Gazette reports () the landfill board voted against the proposal at its meeting Thursday night.
Board chairman Barney Ruiter says he’s concerned about rushing into an agreement. Other board members also say they wanted more time to make a decision.
