When it comes to relievers, reliability is the best ability. Over the past few seasons, Matt Belisle has been among the Rockies’ most consistent performers. The Rockies awarded the right-hander with a one-year contract extension Friday with a mutual option for 2014.

Belisle, 31, went 10-4 last season with a 3.25 ERA in 72 innings. He is entering the final year of a two-year, $6.13 million deal.

Over the last two years, the right-hander has been a stabilizing force in the bullpen, pitching multiple innings while working primarily as a setup man. He’s appeared in 150 games the past two years, going 17-9 with a 3.07 ERA.

He enters spring as a seventh- or eighth-inning option along with Rex Brothers and Matt Lindstrom. Rafael Betancourt, who recently received a new contract, will serve as the closer.
