DENVER—A Denver cycling event has backed off its requirement that riders disclose their household income levels on their registration forms.

KUSA-TV in Denver reports ( ) that in response to complaints, the household income question is now voluntary for people registering for the Denver Century Ride.

Denver-based event marketer Creative Strategies Group designed the questionnaires for registrants. Creative Strategies Group President Bruce Erley says the question was designed to provide marketing information for sponsors, who include KUSA. Erley says fewer than 1 percent of registrants complained.
