DENVER—Forecasters say the San Juan Mountains of southwestern Colorado could get up to 20 inches of snow by Monday morning from a storm moving through the area over the weekend.

The National Weather Service said Saturday that parts of nine counties including the towns of Silverton, Rico and Hesperus will be under a winter storm warning from midnight Saturday until 11 p.m. Sunday.

The counties affected are Archuleta, Conejos (koh-NAY’-hohs), Dolores, Hinsdale, La Plata, Mineral, Rio Grande, San Juan and San Miguel.

Ten to 20 inches of snow is forecast for areas above 10,000 feet elevation in the eastern San Juans.

Forecasters say blowing snow driven by gusts up to 35 mph could reduce visibility to less than a mile.
