DENVER—Denver police are promising changes after a detective testified that witness descriptions of criminal suspects are often overwritten in computer records to reflect the descriptions of suspects later taken into custody.
Police spokesman Lt. Matt Murray said Tuesday there is a misunderstanding on how the computer system works and the department is promising more training on preserving witness statements.
According to the Denver Post ( ), defense attorneys say the alterations hide evidence, but the Denver Police Department denies that any evidence is intentionally overwritten or withheld.
