Two bullets were found in the lunchroom at Devinny Elementary School after fourth-graders finished lunch this afternoon, 9News reported.

The bullets were turned over to Lakewood police, who are investigating. A police spokesman was not immediately available this evening.

The station obtained a letter from Principal Andrew Blackman to parents, in which he states the school’s commitment to safety.

“We encourage parents to be sure ammunition and firearms are locked up at home where children do not have access,” he states in the letter.

He wrote that if students find a gun, bullets or other weapons, they should notify a teacher or school administrator immediately.

According to Jefferson County Public Schools, Devinny, located at 1725 South Wright St., has 595 students in kindergarten through sixth grade.
