GREELEY — The Arizona trucker whose December 2010 crime spree ended with shooting at a Weld County Sheriff deputy left Weld District Court this headed to prison.
Scott David Walker, 48 — whose apparent drug-induced crime spree on Dec. 28, 2010 led to 33 felony charges against him for menacing, burglary, armed robbery and attempted murder — appeared before Judge Thomas Quammen this morning with a plea agreement that would put him in prison for 25-45 years for the crime spree.
Walker’s deal called for him pleading guilty to one count of attempted murder of a police officer, namely former Weld Sheriff Commander Bill Spalding, who pursued him that day. He also pleaded guilty to second-degree burglary for entering a residence house. Quammen dismissed 31 charges against Walker for that day.
The crime-spree began around 10:20 a.m. Dec. 28, 2010, after Walker had dropped off a load of goods to Petsmart, 2833 35th Ave. Walker pulled his rig out into the intersection of 47th Avenue and 29th Street, and stopped his truck. He then got out, carrying a gun and began pointing it at other drivers before fleeing on foot to a nearby apartment complex. There, he tried to force three people at gunpoint to give him their keys. Minutes later, he carjacked a work truck as it stopped at that intersection of 31st Street and 47th Avenue, driving it south, then west a few miles to the home of Michael Morgan at 37th Street and 83rd Avenue. He rammed the truck through the wrought-iron gate, drove around back, and went inside the house.
