WELLINGTON, New Zealand — He took his name from the Internet — but now he cannot use it.
Kim Dotcom, the founder of the website Mega upload, has been ordered not to have any Internet access as part of his bail conditions.
U.S. authorities allege Dotcom facilitated millions of illegal downloads through his company, costing movie makers and songwriters some half a billion dollars in lost copyright revenue.
The U.S. is seeking extradition of Dotcom, 38, and three of his colleagues on racketeering charges. He confirmed he would be fighting extradition.
He was arrested Jan. 20 in New Zealand and released Wednesday on bail.
Court authorities today disclosed his bail conditions. Dotcom may only leave his Auckland home for approved outings such as court appearances and medical appointments. One unusual condition is that no helicopters can land at his home. The Associated Press
