DENVER—Denver International Airport is reporting its busiest year in its 17-year history.
Airport officials said Friday nearly 53 million people went through the airport last year, about 1 million more than 2010.
Aviation Manager Kim Day says two new carriers, Icelandair and Spirit, will continue to draw more fliers.
Colorado Springs Airport headed in the opposite direction. The Gazette reports () the 814,336 passengers who left on flights from Colorado Springs during 2011 marked a 5.7 percent drop from 2010 and were the fewest since 1994.
It was the fourth straight year of traffic declines for Colorado Springs. Airport officials there hope the declines will end with Frontier Airlines adding flights to four cities in May, Allegiant Air adding flights and other airlines switching to larger planes.
