My turn. When Poudre took down Regis Jesuit 57-54 on Friday night in the second round of the Class 5A state tournament in boys basketball, it was a No. 8 seed beating a No. 1 seed. Poudre simply returned the favor — the Raiders, before winning the next three state championships, did the same thing to the Impalas in 2008.

4A champs sidelined. Chalk up a big one for the John F. Kennedy boys team, which defeated host and defending Class 4A state champion Sterling 31-27 on Saturday.

Close for a quarter. The Centaurus girls team scored only one point in the second quarter Friday night in Class 4A’s second round — yet routed Mesa Ridge 54-24.

Fine fourth. Carly Buechler’s 16 points and Amanda Martinez’s 12 helped Arapahoe beat Mountain Vista 54-25, as did a 23-point fourth quarter.
