One would-be robber is on the loose and a second was wounded when the owner of a Lakewood check cashing store shot him after the men used mace in an attempt to rob him, police said.
The attempted robbery in the 7000 block of West Colfax Avenue happened at about 6:40 as the store owner was closing for the evening, according to a release.
“The store owner reported that two males approached as he was closing his business for the evening, sprayed him with mace and then tried to take the money he was carrying. The store owner fired a handgun he had an wounded one of his attackers.”
The store owner was treated on scene, and the wounded suspect taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Lakewood police said the suspects may have been involved in other robberies across the metro area. Police said the store owner will not be charged with a crime.
