The game of the night was at Legacy, where the Alice Barron Region’s top-seeded Lightning was pushed to overtime by the city champs from Denver East in a rematch of the 2010 title game.

After Angels sophomore Michelle Cox hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to force overtime, Legacy (21-4) didn’t blink, pulling out a 74-70 win to advance to Saturday’s Great 8 at the Denver Coliseum.

Emily Glen led the Lightning with 24 points. Kailey Edwards made the most of her 14 trips to the foul line, hitting 11 and finishing with 17 points.

For East (16-8), 6-foot-1 junior Frannie Sally was a force inside, finishing with a season-high 34 points.

SHARON WILCH REGION

(1) Highlands Ranch 74, (5) Fossil Ridge 36.

The dominant force that is Highlands Ranch girls basketball had little trouble with the SaberCats in the Sharon Wilch Region.

A 16-5 second-quarter burst took the wind out of upset-minded Fossil Ridge and allowed coach Caryn Jarocki’s team to cruise into halftime with a 20-point lead.

Senior Michaela Neuhaus led all scorers with 24 points. Junior Shelby Hickey added 17.

The fifth-seeded SaberCats (16-10) didn’t have a player score in double figures.

(3) Grandview 60, (2) Heritage 53.

Adaeze Obinnah had a team-high 15 points as third-seeded Grandview and move to the Class 5A girls Great 8.


CAROL CALLAN REGION

(1) Regis Jesuit 50, (4) Fort Collins 39.

Rest assured the Lady Raiders were well aware of what happened to their boys when they faced a Fort Collins team, and they weren’t about to let it happen again.

The top seed in the Carol Callan Region, Regis (21-4) led just 24-21 at the half before a 14-5 third-quarter run put the game out of reach. The Regis boys were ousted by Poudre last week.

Diani Akigbogun led a balanced scoring attack with 16 points. Marquelle Dent (12), Justine Hall (10) and Katie Heckman (eight and 10 rebounds) all filled the ledger.

Lambkins senior Nicole McAuliffe finished with 13 points.

Palmer’s Taylor Torres sank two free throws with 3.9 seconds remaining to cap an improbable 10-point run that closed in the 5A girls’ round of 16.

KAYE GARMS REGION

(1) Monarch 64, (4) Ralston Valley 41.

Behind a 17-2 binge to begin the third quarter, Monarch cruised into Saturday’s Class 5A Great 8 with at The Den.

(3) ThunderRidge 44, (2) Arapahoe 43.

ThunderRidge and tied the game at 40 inside the last minute, then grabbed its first lead of the game at 42-40 with 25 seconds remaining en route to the win.
