A man has been arrested in connection with a brutal assault that happened on Monday in East Denver.

The victim, a 56-year-old man whose name has not been released, remains in the hospital in critical condition.

Police responded to a home on 1331 Niagara St. on a report of an assault and found the man in critical condition. No other details on the attack have been released.

The Denver Police Department was able to identify and arrest suspect, Leonid A. Rabinkov, 34, on Thursday.

According to Colorado court records, Rabinkov was currently serving probation for a previous assault case from August 2010.

In that case, Rabinkov was originally charged with third-degree assault of an at-risk adult, but the charge was later dismissed by the district attorney’s office who charged him instead with a regular third-degree assault, and sentenced him in January 2011 to two years of probation.

Rabinkov also has a previous history of theft and assault charges.
