CLERMONT, Fla.—U.S. Olympian Jarrod Shoemaker opened the season with a hometown victory Saturday in the Clermont ITU Sprint Triathlon Pan American Cup at Lake Louisa State Park.
Shoemaker completed the 750-meter swim, 20-kilometer bike, 5-kilometer in 56 minutes, 4 seconds. Canada’s Kyle Jones was second in 56:11, and Tommy Zaferes of Soquel, Calif., followed in 56:15.
Canada’s Kathy Tremblay won the women’s race in 1:01:01. Kelly Whitley of Colorado Springs, Colo., was second in 1:01:10, and Sarah Haskins, also of Colorado Springs, was third in 1:01:12.
