No. 3 seed University of Denver (21-11-4) will host No. 10 Wisconsin (16-16-2) in the first round of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association playoffs Friday, Saturday and (if necessary) Sunday at Magness Arena.
No. 5 Colorado College (18-14-2) will host No. 8 Michigan Tech (14-18-4) in Colorado Springs on the same dates.
The winner of the best-of-three series will advance to the WCHA Final Five, set for March 15-17 at Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minn.
The winner of the Final Five will earn the Broadmoor Trophy and the WCHA’s automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament.
• The No. 1-seeded men’s hockey team from Air Force (17-9-7, 15-6-6 Atlantic Hockey Association) will host No. 8 seed Connecticut (15-17-4, 12-12-3) in a conference tournament quarterfinal best-of-three series Friday, Saturday and (if necessary) Sunday.
As the regular-season champions, the Falcons received a bye in the first round of the AHA playoffs.
UNC falls to Washington State. The Northern Colorado baseball team held a lead into the fifth inning, but gave up three runs and couldn’t recover while falling to Washington State 7-3 on Sunday in Pullman, Wash.
Offensively, the Bears (1-6) struggled, finishing with nine hits and four errors. Adrian Schenk, Ryan Yamane and Adam Hilker had RBIs for the Bears.
• The Air Force baseball team managed only four hits in a 6-2 loss to South Carolina Upstate in Spartanburg, S.C. The Falcons (3-8) were held in check by the Spartans (9-1), striking out six times and scoring single runs in the first and seventh innings. Alex Bast had the only RBI for Air Force.
