GOLDEN, Colo.—A man convicted of trying to shoot a police officer after robbing a Central City casino has been sentenced to 224 years in prison.

Forty-five-year-old Randy Steven Keesee was found to be a habitual criminal before he was sentenced last week, so his sentence was quadruple the maximum he otherwise would have received.

Prosecutors say he robbed the Famous Bonanza Casino in 2010 at gunpoint, then tried to shoot at a Black Hawk police officer who confronted him. The officer shot and wounded Keesee. Prosecutors decided the officer’s actions were justified.

Keesee was convicted last year of attempted first-degree murder, four counts of aggravated robbery, five violent crime counts that could’ve enhanced his sentence, first-degree assault of a peace officer, theft of more than $20,000, and reckless endangerment.
