FORT COLLINS, Colo.—The U.S. Forest Service is split over charging fees for using Colorado parks and recreation areas.

The federal agency plans to charge $5 to hike or park in the Roosevelt National Forest at Chambers Lake, Dowdy Lake or Shadow Mountain Reservoir this summer. It will cost $9 to park for a hike at Brainard Lake.

Others, like Greyrock, Hewlett’s Gulch, Pingree Park or most forests in Poudre Canyon will be free.

According to the Fort Collins Coloradoan ( ), the Forest Service says the money is used to pay for maintaining toilets, dumping trash cans, interpretive kiosks, picnic tables and for security.
