State of the kids’ art

The Art Salon offers art classes, hosts exhibits, shows and events for all ages and abilities — including a two-hour “Elf and Troll Making” project geared for kids ages 8-13. Participants make polymer clay heads and then build little elves and sprites with cloth, twigs, feathers and other materials. The class is offered at 11 a.m. today; fee is $25 per student. A green ambassa-door

The Center for ReSource Conservation is seeking submissions for its inaugural Bold Doors 2012, a Boulder-based art competition using recycled doors as art. Any type of door can be used, including front, back, sliding, refrigerator and cabinet. Entry levels include student, amateur or professional. Local businesses can host door installations and a “Door Ways” map will be available online and in kiosks. Cash and prizes will be awarded. The deadline is April 15 for students, and May 26 for the open and professional categories. Visit the website for details.

Horsing around

The Rocky Mountain Horse Expo continues through Sunday and offers everything equine-related you can think of in celebration of its 20th anniversary. Entertainment, exhibits, activities and demonstrations will be included. A toast to creativity

Mark your calendar for March 17 to learn about Mexican Cultural Heritage at the “Kid’s Art Saturday” class offered at the Chicano Humanities & Arts Council from 2 to 4 p.m. Parents are welcome to join their children; there is a suggested donation of $2. Topics vary in this art class series offered the third Saturday of each month. Meanwhile, adults can look forward to March 23, when they can paint their own margarita glasses at “CHAC It Up!” at 6:30 p.m. Interactive art, refreshments and music are included. Materials (and a margarita!) are included for a $15 fee. This series is offered the fourth Saturday of each month.
