The defending national champion Colorado ski team fell to fourth place after the completion of Friday’s nordic events at the NCAA Ski Championshps in Bozeman, Mont. The Buffs (495 points) trail Vermont (614), Utah (522) and Dartmouth (510). Denver tallied 278½ points and is currently in sixth.

CU freshman Rune Oedegaard finished seventh in the men’s 20-kilometer freestyle with a time of 57 minutes, 32.3 seconds. Utah’s Miles Havlick won in 56:24.3.

DU got an eighth place from Andrew Daugherty in the men’s race and another eighth from Makalya Cappel in the women’s 15K freestyle. The meet concludes today with the men’s and women’s slalom races.

Packard’s blast lifts Bears.  Northern Colorado’s Ben Packard hit a three-run homer in the Bears’ first home win of the season, a 9-5 victory over Nebraska Omaha at Jackson Field in Greeley.

DU’s Scott a finalist. University of Denver men’s basketball coach Joe Scott is one of 21 finalists for the 2012 Hugh Durham national coach of the year award, which is given annually to the nation’s top midmajor coach.
