GLENWOOD SPRINGS — Several Garfield County road improvements are slated this year, as the county commissioners authorized spending close to $10 million in built-up road and bridge construction funds.
“When we talk about economic development, there’s no better way to get funds back into our community, and to improve the community, than with these projects,” Commissioner Tom Jankovsky said at the March 19 Garfield Board of County Commissioners meeting.
Since that meeting, acting county manager Andrew Gorgey said Road and Bridge Department officials have been working with the engineering, procurement and finance departments to refine the numbers.
Department heads will determine which projects to prioritize for the remainder of this year, Gorgey said. A final list is to be presented to the county commissioners at their April 2 meeting.
“We want to accomplish as much good for the public in the way of road projects for the season as possible,” Gorgey said.
The county has about $9.6 million in Road and Bridge capital funds that were budgeted but unspent from last year. That money was carried over into the 2012 budget, along with some additional funds budgeted for this year.
