SPRING VALLEY –  — Residents here are surprised and angry about plans to install a natural-gas compressor station on land owned by Colorado Mountain College.

The SourceGas natural gas distribution company is hoping to put a large repressurization facility on a five-acre site near the CMC campus, for use in pumping natural gas over to the Eagle and Vail area and other destinations.

Spring Valley residents, who maintain they received very short notice about the proposal, believe the college is betraying the trust of its benefactors and its neighbors.

CMC President Stan Jensen, speaking by phone Tuesday, said the idea of a large compressor station would understandably cause distress to neighbors.
