IGNACIO, Colo.—A New Mexico teen has been arrested in the shooting death of a man on Colorado’s Southern Ute Indian Reservation and authorities are still searching for a second suspect.

Eighteen-year-old Elijah Timothy Anglin of Farmington was arrested Wednesday night and was being held in the La Plata County jail. Deputies are looking for 19-year-old Tomy Lee Mitchell, also of Farmington.

They’re suspected in the slaying of 39-year-old Joey Benavidez on Tuesday.

Sheriff’s spokesman Lt. Dan Bender said that authorities found Anglin that night and he told them he had given a hitchhiker a ride to Benavidez’s home and witnessed the shooting. He said later information indicated that Anglin was involved in the shooting.

Benavidez lived on the reservation but wasn’t a registered tribal member so the sheriff is investigating.
