Most of Colorado west of the Continental Divide is under a critical “red flag” fire danger warning until 7 p.m. today.
Northwest Colorado could experience winds up to 45 mph this afternoon, before a low pressure system driven by an approaching cold front pushes east of the Continental Divide this evening, according to the National Weather Service.
That cold front, however, could only manage to return the Denver metro region to season temperatures in the lower 60s, after two weeks that have, except for a two-day snap, seen daily highs 10 to 20 degrees warmer than normal.
Denver and parts of Adams. Arapahoe, Boulder, Broomfield, Douglas, Larimer and Weld counties will be under a red flag warning from noon to 8 p.m. Friday.
The metro region and nearby plains could get wind gusts up to 40 mph under humidities of about 10 percent Friday, forecasters said.
Breezy conditions are expected to linger overnight in the high country and gusts up to 45 mph Friday morning.
After high temperatures near 60 degrees this weekend, sunny skies and daily highs near 70 degrees are expected in the metro region next week.
