After two tough setbacks in March — a 10-9 loss to No. 9 Notre Dame in triple overtime and a 9-8 defeat to No. 8 Cornell in overtime — the University of Denver men’s lacrosse team is back on track.
Winners of two in a row, the Pioneers jumped back into the national top 10, at No. 9, after league victories over Air Force and Hobart.
DU (6-3) returns home tonight at Peter Barton Stadium to face Bellarmine (3-4) at 7 p.m.
“Bellarmine is a team composed of a lot of Canadian players,” DU coach Bill Tierney said this week. “They’re very big and strong offensively. It’s probably going to be more of a physical game.”
DU, at 2-1, is tied for third in the Eastern College Athletic Conference,. The top two teams, Loyola (Md.) and Fairfield, are still left on the Pioneers’ schedule.
“We really have to win out the rest of our league games to earn a strong seed,” Tierney said.
