COLORADO SPRINGS — A former El Paso County Sheriff’s deputy convicted of careless driving resulting in death was sentenced Wednesday to 60 days in jail.
Rodney Fannin will serve an additional 30 days in jail because he was on probation on a careless driving charge at the time of the Aug. 3, 2011, fatal crash. He also was sentenced to 200 hours community service and two years probation.
He was ordered to report to jail on April 29.
He ran a red light Aug. 3, 2011, and slammed his vehicle into another driven by 41-year-old Vivian Elmo, a captain with the 310th Space Wing at Schriever Air Force Base. She died at the scene.
A jury deliberated just two hours before returning the guilty verdict on April 5.
