LOVELAND, Colo.—A Loveland woman who said she shot and killed her boyfriend in self-defense won’t face criminal charges.

Larimer County prosecutors said Friday they found no reason to dispute the assertion by 56-year-old Wendy Vita Hart that she feared for her life when she shot 51-year-old Jeffrey Lynn Buckley on Feb. 12.

The Loveland Reporter-Herald reports ( ) that Hart told sheriff’s investigators Buckley was intoxicated and had become physically aggressive.

Hart told investigators she had barricaded herself in the bathroom of their home. Prosecutors say Buckley had bruises on his knuckles consistent with punching something.

Buckley was shot in the upper abdomen and the right side of his chest. He was taken to a Loveland hospital where he was pronounced dead.
