LITTLETON, Colo.—Friends and family recalled Ann Appel as a person who had a passion for life.
Appel died in the March 26 wildfire that swept across the foothills south of Conifer after strong winds whipped up a controlled burn started days earlier by the Colorado State Forest Service. Two other residents also died.
The Denver Post reports ( ) friends and family who gathered Saturday at a church in Littleton recalled Appel as a talented photographer who reveled in the sports and scholastic achievements of her two sons. She had made cookies and granola bars for her sons the day she died.
The 51-year-old Appel was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and earned a bachelor’s degree in medical technology from Iowa State University. She and her husband, Scott, married in 1989.
