Not every woman thinks about the meaning behind each piece of jewelry she pins to her lapel, but it became a habit in the 1990s with then-Secretary of State Madeleine Albright as a way to emphasize her diplomatic missions as she met with world leaders. Now many of the flag pins she wore to show her patriotism or insects to nudge her adversaries into action are on display at the Denver Art Museum. Also on view are ones that show Albright’s personal side, such as “Katie’s Pin,” above, made by Albright’s daughter when she was 5, and the three ships Albright says represent her three daughters setting sail on their way to adulthood.
