A driver who hit and killed a jogger on April 8 in southwest Denver won’t face vehicular homicide charges because he suffered an unspecified medical episode before the accident, the Denver District Attorney’s Office said today.

Michael A. Sanders, 45, was hit and killed that Sunday morning in the 6200 block of West Hampden Avenue when an out-of-control sport-utility vehicle operated by Eduardo Duarte-Alegria, 42, of Denver.

The SUV then sped across the lawn of a church, smashed through a fence and into a house pinning the resident against the refrigerator in the kitchen.

While avoiding charges in Saunders’ death, Alegria was ticketed for operating a vehicle not equipped with an interlock device, which is ordered by judges to prohibit previous offenders from operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.
