GRAND JUNCTION — Sean Rubalcaba recently was named ESPN Midlands baseball player of the week.
The senior third baseman has a .633 batting average with 13 doubles and 17 runs batted in for Grand Junction, 9-5 overall, 3-3 in the Class 5A Southwestern League and still in contention for the postseason.
“I’m just trying to finish my high school year on a good note,” Rubalcaba said.
He has signed to play quarterback at Northern Colorado and is a two-time All-Colorado athlete by The Denver Post. He also was The Denver Post 2011 Gold Helmet winner.
When a Western Slope television station suggested his ESPN honor superceded being named the state’s top senior football, scholar and citizen, Rubalcaba replied, “Heck no.”
