Many longtime Denverites remember Dana Davis from her childhood here in the 1980s. The daughter of Barbara and Marvin Davis, she was diagnosed with diabetes at age 7. The biannual Carousel Ball was founded in her honor to raise money for diabetes and is now held every other year in Los Angeles. And while the Davis family lives in California, the Barbara Davis Center for Childhood Diabetes continues in Denver as one of the largest programs in the world specilaizing in Type I diabetes research and care for children and adults. Dana’s problems with her feet as a complication of diabetes — as well as eight corrective foot surgeries — led her to develop a line of comfortable but high-fashion footwear, and she’ll be in Denver Saturday to show the line at J. Gilbert in Cherry Creek North. In developing the shoe designs, Davis works with a team that includes foot and ankle surgeons and podiatrists. Each shoe incorporates a full orthotic so it has the proper cushioning and arch support. J. Gilbert, known for its high-end boots for men and women, also has designer collections of shoes, clothing and accessories. Dana Davis trunk show, noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, J. Gilbert Footwear, 3003 E. Third Ave. Suite B, 303-322-3280;
