The Aurora and Cherry Creek school districts are taking aim at bullies and the problem of bullying — an issue that is gaining attention across the country.
The Aurora Public School District has adopted the national “No Place for Hate” campaign. About a dozen of its schools are participating in the program, and 41,000 students throughout the state are enrolled in the initiative.
The Cherry Creek School District has had anti-bullying policies in place since the 1990s, but officials are updating it.
The new program is being called Bullying 2.0, said Marla Bonds, bullying-prevention coordinator for the district.
“This has been an area of focus in our district for a long time now,” Bonds said. “We’re already doing a lot with bully prevention, but we felt it was time to update and intensify our efforts.”
The program, sponsored by the Anti-Defamation League, is operating in more than 19 states and cities, including New York; St. Louis; San Diego; and Santa Barbara, Calif.
