MEEKER, Colo.—The U.S. Forest Service is looking for help decorating this year’s U.S. Capitol Christmas tree.
Over 5,000 handmade ornaments are needed to decorate the tree, which will come from Colorado’s White River National Forest. Another 1,000 ornaments are needed for smaller trees that will decorate offices in Washington, D.C.
The Forest Service is asking children across the state to contribute ornaments.
The outdoor ornaments need to be able to withstand wintry weather and be between 9 and 12 inches so they can be visible from far away. The ornaments should show the different ways Coloradans enjoy the outdoors.
Children who submit an ornament will be entered into a drawing to win a trip to Washington.
Ornaments will be accepted through Oct. 5.
