Denver’s 11th annual Original Derby Party will complicate traffic this weekend around the Colorado Convention Center, a few blocks north of the city’s .
The, which celebrates the running of Kentucky Derby horse race, is from 1 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday. The annual soiree benefits the the Sean “Ranch” Lough Memorial Scholarship fund.
Today the city of Denver Public Works Department encouraged attendees to both events to carpool or take public transportation, which encourage downtown travelers to consider alternate routes.
Road closures to accommodate the events begins Friday.
The Derby Party will close 14th Street from Curtis to Stout streets, as well as and Champa Street from from 15th to 13th streets from 9 a.m. Friday to 9 a.m. Sunday,
Road closures for the Cinco de Mayo celebration near Civic Center park will begin at 6 a.m. Friday and continue until 6 a.m. Monday.
Closures Friday include:
• Bannock Street from Colfax Avenue to 13th Avenue. at 6 a.m.
• 14th Avenue from Cherokee Street to Broadway at 9:30 a.m.
• Colfax Avenue from Cherokee to Lincoln Street at 6 p.m.
• 14th Street from Court Place to Colfax Avenue at 6 p.m.
• 15th Street from Colfax Avenue to Cleveland Place at 6 p.m.
• Cheyenne Place from Broadway to Colfax Avenue at 6 p.m.
• Broadway from 19th Street to 13th Avenue, except for local access to Cleveland Place at 7p.m.
• 14th Avenue from Broadway to Lincoln at 7 p.m.
