COLORADO SPRINGS — Mayor Steve Bach, other Colorado Springs officials and members of the city’s religious community will gather today on the steps of city hall to participate in the National Day of Prayer.

Pastor Bill Cole, of First Presbyterian Church in downtown Colorado Springs, said the event will begin at 11:30 a.m. with worship music and continue from noon to 1 p.m. for corporate prayer. Cole has been helping organize the event since 2003.

The National Day of Prayer began in 1952 when President Harry Truman signed the observance into law after a joint resolution of the United States Congress. The observance is celebrated annually on the first Thursday of May.
