FORT COLLINS, Colo.—An oil company has taken down its drilling rig in Windsor and plans to move it away from the site of an old landfill.
The Fort Collins Coloradoan ( ) says a Ranchers Exploration drilling rig became unstable while drilling the well last week. According to a cease-and-desist order issued by the state, landfill debris was churned out from the well.
The acting director of the Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission, Thomas Kerr, says drilling through refuse isn’t acceptable.
The Greeley-based company says the rig will be moved to another site.
Residents have been concerned about the drilling since it was first announced last year. The company had moved the well to a location that both the state and Larimer County thought would be safe to drill.
