Exxon Mobil has bumped Wal-Mart from first place among the Fortune 500 top revenue-generating U.S. companies, thanks to rising oil prices. Fortune Magazine released its annual list Monday.
Oil producers saw some of the biggest revenue increases as a rebellion in Libya and high demand worldwide pushed oil prices higher. Two other petroleum companies — Chevron and ConocoPhillips — ranked next behind Wal-Mart.
Rounding out the top 10 were automaker General Motors, industrial and banking giant General Electric, Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway, mortgage provider Fannie Mae, Ford and technology giant Hewlett-Packard.
Arrow Electronics topped the list of Colorado corporations on the list, with 2011 revenues of $21.4 billion. The global supplier of electronic components and services was No. 133 on the national list.
The addition of Arrow, which moved its headquarters last year from Melville, N.Y., to Arapahoe County, brings the number of Colorado companies on the annual list to nine. Dish Network ranked No. 2 among Colorado companies on the list, moving up to No. 191 from 193 nationally, with 2011 revenues of $14 billion. Others: Liberty Interactive, No. 230; Newmont Mining, 257; Liberty Global, 261; Ball Corp., 297; DaVita, 359; CH2M Hill, 440; and Western Union, 445.
