Three helicopters and 582 firefighters continue to battle the Hewlett Fire near Fort Collins, but wet weather Saturday tamped down the blaze, which is now 85 percent contained, according to the U.S. Forest Service.

One-half inch of rain fell on the 7,685-acre fire on Saturday, helping to slow its spread, according to the Forest Service.

The fire is expected to be fully contained by 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Firefighters continue building lines and mopping up hot spots on the fire, which broke out last Monday in the Canyon Lakes Ranger District of the Roosevelt National Forest north of Highway 14 in Poudre Canyon.

The blaze forced evacuations of about 80 homes southwest of Fort Collins. All evacuation orders and road closures were rescinded at 7 p.m. on Friday.

James J. Weber, 56, of Fort Collins, was ticketed for starting the fire when his backpacking stove fell over.
