GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.—A Grand Junction homeless man is facing charges after another homeless man was attacked with an axe.
Police say 55-year-old Mark Hirshberg is accused of assault and menacing after a 33-year-old homeless man was attacked repeatedly Sunday with the axe in a local park. The victim was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital with serious, but non-life threatening injuries.
According to KJCT-TV ( ), Hirschberg fled on a bicycle and swam a portion of the Colorado River to a small island. He was apprehended after authorities tracked him down with a boat.
The victim was not identified.
